While the first codex by Weiditz has been well recognised as a source of accurate clothing items his second work has not received the same regard.
It is true that many of the figures in his second work appear to be taken from other sources, in some cases these sources do not exist and in other cases the figures predate appearance in other costume books by two decades.
The book is particularly rich in depictions of figures from the North Rhine, especially of the Duchy of Juelich-Kleve-Berg of which we have very few visual records. Written records of the region are also scarce while we have a great many from Koeln.
The figures of Nuremberg include two girls in dresses with their colours reversed, the colours of red and green are seen in these two colourways in paintings.
